Florida is one of the fastest-growing states and most-moved-to states in the US. Each year, hundreds of thousands of new residents move in, and they all have to go somewhere, right? Thousands of acres of land are converted to accommodate the growing population, resulting in the decline of native ecosystems and fragmenting habitat. These ecosystems are also home to Florida’s unique wildlife, from birds and snakes to alligators and bobcats. Where will they go when their homes are taken away to build ours?

The Animal Neighbors program is inspired by habitat fragmentation and development that continue to push humans and wildlife closer and closer together, creating a fear of the unknown and misconceptions about wildlife. This program strives to bridge the gap between humans and wildlife so our community may coexist peacefully and safely with the animals that share our backyards.
