CHEC offers many programs to students, as well as the general public. Most of the programs available are free! If you have questions about any of the programs, please feel free to contact CHEC.
The first program ever presented by CHEC is the now popular "4th Grade Field Studies Program". This program involves taking every Charlotte County public school 4th grader on an a two-day educational field trip...
One day is spent exploring the trails on either of CHEC’s environmental sites; learning about native and exotic flora and fauna, species, "hunting" for alligators, hogs, snakes, birds and more! CHEC shows the students what's in their backyard.
A second day is spent on CHEC’s 29-ft pontoon boat, Miss Charlotte, cruising along the Peace River or in Lemon Bay. Students learn about estuaries, water quality testing, boating safety and get to explore the seagrass beds - all in the context of the connections between land and water. It is exciting, educational, hands-on and fun.
Southwest Florida's wild side is precious, so CHEC staff tries to instill a sense of responsibility and stewardship with the students. This program encourages a sense of adventure and mystery, while helping students appreciate nature.
