One day is spent exploring the trails of either of our environmental sites, learning about native and exotic flora and fauna, species, "hunting" for alligators, hogs, snakes, birds and more! CHEC shows the students what's in our backyard.

One of the primary missions of the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, Inc. is to provide passive recreational opportunities.
CHEC, Inc. operates two environmentally sensitive lands as recreation sites for the public. The Alligator Creek Preserve is over 3,000 acres of state-owned land (Charlotte Harbor Preserve State Park and Charlotte Harbor Buffer Preserves ) of which the Center leases more than 20 acres to provide recreational activities and environmental education opportunities to the citizens of the greater Charlotte Harbor area. The Alligator Creek Preserve is located in Punta Gorda Florida.

The Watershed Resource Center (WRC), the research division of the CHEC, serves the public interest by conducting original ecological research and providing public access to scientific information regarding the condition of water quality, as well as the causes and consequences of changes in water quality throughout the Charlotte Harbor estuary complex and its watershed. One of the primary missions of the Charlotte Harbor Environmental Center, Inc. is to provide preservation land management in the surrounding area.
The Center is responsible for natural resource management on a number of sites located in Charlotte County. Monitoring flora and fauna provides information necessary for the development of management strategies. Prescribed burns are a management tool utilized by CHEC in an effort to duplicate the naturally occurring fire events that have been shaping this area for centuries.
